If you want a friendly and comfortable place, this would be it. Ingenious flavor combination and twists on old classics. Cakes, muffins, danish, you name it, it's great. I live on the west side but every time I have business in the Detroit / Harper Woods/ Grosse Pointe area, I always arrange my schedule to allow me time to get there before they close. I've ordered cakes and pies there very often and everything has been great. However, my only critique of them is that you have to be very specific when it comes to cake decoration. I ordered a cake for my wife's birthday and told them I'd like season colors, with perhaps some flowers on it. I told them that I would like the decorator use their inspiration. The cake they created looked like something for a little girl, not a 50+ woman. I took it because I need the cake that day but told them I was not happy. They compensated me for my dissatisfaction and I've continued to go there because the do make a quality product.

I haven't been here yet, but I have tried one of their cakes..for my engagement no less! My (now) fiancé took me to Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe (right next door to Morning Glory) after he popped the question. Being new to the area, he didn't know where he could get us a celebratory cake..and naturally Dirty Dog suggested their sister restaurant - Morning Glory. The cake was perfect - rich,,moist..just delicious..and with a little decoration congratulating us on our big day - just like my fiancé wanted! It was waiting for us at our table in Dirty Dog as soon as we arrived..and was the perfect finish to our very special day. Can't wait to try out all of the other treats at Morning Glory. :)

It's a hit or miss with this place. The pastries and food is good (I love the turkey Reuben, croissants and fruit pastries) but the service I receive makes me not want to go. I had a bad encounter with a waitress that took 25 minutes to make two of the same sandwiches then gave me an attitude on my way out, as if it was my fault. I go in knowing I will have bad service just get what I need because they have good prices and interesting options.

Nom nom nom! This place has loads of delicious temptations. I'm a big fan of their miniature dessert bites. It's a great way to sample taste their creations without having to buy an entire bar. The quiche is yummy too! My husband just bought my birthday cake here too (a Tiffany blue with a white ribbon cake). Not only did it look amazing but it tasted divine!! So moist and the frosting wasn't too sweet - just perfect. Very delicious. I gave it four out of five because I wish they would offer more lunch options and I was disappointed in their smoothies.

Oh yeah. Thank God for this place. Dont bother with the generic chain coffee/pastry offerings in the Village. Superior, original sweets and baked goods with something new every day. Eggnog cranberry scone? Chocolate croissants? Powdered sugar beignet? They got em. Also very well done custom cakes and treats for special occasions. Friendly staff and hip interior. A total winner.

Pretty darn good coffee!! I've only tried a few of the pastries but they are very good. Soup is pretty tasty. Quaint and local

Kind of pricy the kids sandwich was very plain but the décor and atmosphere was wonderful and desserts awesome. Strawberry smoothie worth a try! I recommend sitting in the outdoor part when you first walk in. it gives you a nice quant feel of being somewhere else in the world even if its just for that 5 minuets sipping a latté.

From the outside, walking by, you may not appreciate the decor inside or the variety of wonderfully looking treats. After spending a lengthy evening at a near-by restaurant hanging out with a friend, then coming here for dessert, I wish we would have come here in the beginning. When you walk in, you will appreciate their efforts in decor, old bookstore or library setting, and making you feel relaxed immediately. It is a very nice and cute setting. I wanted to sit in here, drink my coffee, read a book or spend time with friends. It is difficult to not order everything in their showcase, but finally decided on the mousse bomb and beignet with chocolate sauce . It is a very nice rich mousse filling with a dark chocolate ganache shell. It had a pleasant mousse texture, sweetness and taste. If I only had this and I would have given them four stars. However, they lost a star on their beignets. It wasn't the worst beignets I've had, but it wasn't the best either. You'll enjoy each bite, but it will not make your eyes roll back. They are not prepared to order so I think ours was made in the morning and had gone stale. The sauce saved it from it being a complete loss. I hope they are better in the morning. I'm looking forward to trying more here or at least sitting inside and enjoying the environment.

I would like to give 2.5 stars Horrendous customers service experience. I was doing some work and had been here for 2 hours so I felt the right thing to do is buy another drink even though I don't feel thirsty... I went in to buy a pop and was informed by the very Polite cashier that there would be an additional .50 charge because they charge .50 for all credit card sales under $10.00 to which I said "so does that mean that I was charged .50 extra for my coffee earlier but not informed?" Sherri the other cashier who had rung me up earlier must have gone on high alert when she heard me ask this because next I said can I please have a $10 gift card to avoid the .50 fee then I will purchase my pop with the gift card. And I said I'm surprised this is coffee shop everyone is buying things under $10.... Well that was it Sherri got IN MY FACE in front of like 10 people 3 other employees and 7 or so customers and told me I should just pay the fee! to which I said "Are you yelling at me?" and she proceeded to engage in VERY confrontational behavior saying escalating to what would have been a very intense argument if I hadn't shut it down by saying "I think you are yelling at me: what is your name?" I stood there at the counter for 2 more minutes with my heart racing trying to calm myself down while the nice cashier finished ringing me up.... 10 minutes later back on the porch the nice cashier who's name I didn't catch but has short dark hair and wears a cross necklace came out to wash the tables and essentially apologized and made excuses for Sherri. I'm not interested in an apology from the peacemaker I'm interested in not being publicly humiliated/confronted/yelled at in the first place. I so wanted to give this cafe a good review, it is probably the best independently owned coffee ship for a 5 mile radius, good latte's fabulous covered front patio facing "the hill" , free wifi that works, a gas fireplace good stuff and I will be taking advantage as long as I'm living on the East side. There are a few things that already irked me but I was overlooking #1 the sound of the refrigerated cake cases running inside is so loud that I can't stand to sit in there... they have a the same sound system for inside and outside and because the fridge cases are loud inside they play the music loud so it is too loud on the porch and it is pretty elevatorish. All the cute cafe tables on the patio are very off balance and need to have 1/2 books shoved under one leg to avoid spilling your coffee all over. That all said there isn't a better option unless you like the atmosphere of Starbucks. I can't say enough how much I appreciate all the outdoor seating here because if you spend 30+mins inside a coffee shop you come out smelling like roast beans.

Really poor coffee with an extremely limited coffee drink menu. Don't really get their angle as a coffee shop. More of a pastry shop that happens to have coffee available. Food and pastries look really good but this place is just missing something.

I stopped in for a croissant in the morning...delicious! Buttery, flaky, soft.. Then I went back for dessert after lunch (I work on the corner) .. Cupcake was disappointing... Very very dry...and dense...if I didn't eat the cake without the frosting it would have been inedible... I will try the chocolate mousse next time...looked delicious! Other than the cupcake...great service and good prices :)

I just stopped in for a coffee and a pastry. The latte was drinkable, which makes it good for this part of town (where the options are Starbucks and stay home). The pastry (cannoli) was good and the menu looks nice. There are a few tables out the front (outside) and lots of space inside. Service was friendly and efficient (it's order at the counter, food to the table). They have free wifi. I'd try it for the food next time. Maybe they could visit Astro and learn what good coffee is like. BONUS: overhear some amazing Grosse Pointe conversations about Ponies and golf clubs for 8 year olds.

We enjoy popping in the Morning Glory for a hot chocolate and love the atmosphere save for the open and messy storage on the second level visible from below. The hot chocolate is delicious, as is the Chicken Gyro flatbread. And the ham and bean soup is incredible! We were disappointed in their stuffed croissants (very little filling and a bit on the dry side), and while their chicken stew isn't noteworthy, we still look forward to sampling more of their offerings in the future. It is a tad pricey but being able to sit down with a book, savor conversation, or just plan eavesdrop is delightful!

After reading about Morning Glory in the Free Press, I was excited to check it out. The scene is very nice - sitting on the patio on Kercheval with lots of conversations going on around you, and a pleasant view of the street. The acoustics are kind of loud (quite) outside, and the red chairs encourage rigid posture. The food? Well, it is ok, maybe 3 star food - at least as far as the egg sandwich and eggs florentine go. There is a multitude of baked goods. I tried the raspberry torte/tarte thing. It was not bad, either, but would pale in comparison to something from say, Shatila. As for the price, I don't think it is the greatest value. The coffee and tea, though, got high marks. I would mainly return for coffee and tea, and the ambiance, which I really dug.

The setting is charming and the decor is classy. The service and food are subpar. I waited 30 mins or more for my oatmeal - which was served without milk or any kind of garnish. On another visit my salad was handed to me prepackaged in a plastic container from the fridge - just like at McD's. Hmm. I might give it another shot. The baked goods look amazing!

3 of us arrived here on a Sunday at 1:30 waiting for a 4th person who arrived at 1:50. We were getting ready to sit at a table when an employee asked if we just arrived. We told her we arrived earlier and were waiting for our entire party before ordering. She the told us we could not stay and had to order to take out. Their website clearly stated that they stayed open until 4:00. The rude employee told us again to order take out. When we left without ordering anything, she rudely slammed the door and locked it behind us. Whoever runs this place needs to learn how to treat customers. Their coffee can't possibly be that good. Will never return here.

Ok. This place is really cute. Love the "old library" feel and the elephant theme. The winding staircase and the giant chandelier that hangs from the vaulted ceiling are oh-so-charming. Perfect place to curl up with a good book and cup of their not awesome, but decent coffee. Unfortunately, their food didn't even pass for decent. I ordered the eggs florentine and it was gross- salty and greasy. Husband had the quiche and felt the same way. What's wrong with being just a coffee and pastry shop? Why try to do hot breakfast if you can't do it right? Morning glory is having an identity crisis! I didn't try any of the pastries or baked goods so I can't speak to those. They did look delicious. One thing that really bugged me was their upstairs storage that is visible to patrons. A more organized approach (cute shelving, closed door cabinets) or a hanging curtain would really do wonders. It's too bad they can't find a different storage solution altogether so the upstairs could be used for additional seating/lounging.

Everyone truely is a critic and I bit harsh, Lol. There are Grosse Pointers, like myself, who rave and appreciate this little Gem added to the "Hill" as we most lovingly call it! I love this quaint cafe with all it"s charm and ambience. I am usually with people I truely enjoy so the ambiance only adds to the experience. Besides the pastries, I too have had breakfast and do quite enjoy if not love the occasional breakfast sandwitch. Ordering it a cheese biscuit ups its flavour. So I say cheers to you Morning Glory! An especially great way to begin any day. I do agree however, with a previous review. Upstairs seating if that could be accomodated would be a nice option as well. This is the only review I've ever written. I was inspired to give this special place it"s proper place. Enjoy!

I've been to Morning Glory numerous times. When they first opened, service was poor. Employees didn't seem to know what to do. While things have improved, service still tends to be iffy. I walked in and there were at least 6 employees behind the counter cleaning up, etc. as closing hour was near. It was several minutes before I was helped. The customer before me was disgusted as he asked for freshly brewed coffee and was given an Americana. He then asked for something different. While the breakfast menu is limited, it was tasty. Many of my friends go elsewhere for breakfast---they don't get refills on coffee. I love the way it is decorated. A lot of money has gone into the decor---need to focus on better customer service. How hard is it to make and serve mainly coffee?

Just recently moved to the area and I LOVE this little place. The atmosphere, pastries and service are GREAT. What surprised me most is the fantastic hours. They are open early during the week and also late on the weekend. It's a win win with this place. Anything from cupcakes to lunch or even wine, it has all been delicious. The fire place is a nice perk and the atmosphere is unique. I recommend the hot chai tea!

I want to give this place more than 3 stars. Great atmosphere, good looking pastries decent coffee, but the best way I can explain is it's like a movie set where the extras are actually running the shop. It seems that there is no set responsibilities for anyone. Everyone shares all of the duties of which creates a slight air of controlled chaos. Not sure how long they've been open and maybe it's just growing pains, but it could use some polishing. Then again, maybe you just have to serve coffee to succeed on the Hill.

I feel awful that I have to give 2 stars because really, this place is totally stinkin' cute. This little cafe is nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of offices, salons and realtors along Kercheval in Grosse Pointe Farms...lovingly dubbed "The Hill" by Grosse Pointers. You are welcomed by an amazing covered outdoor porch complete with bistro tables and a fireplace that just adds to the lovely ambiance. Great for afternoon tea in my opinion, or a hot cup of Joe on a cool brisk fall morning....make sure to grab the seat pads for your tush and back though because the chairs are quite uncomfortable without them! and when you walk in, the love continues with a fabulous little couch and table to your left...a SPIRAL staircase that takes you to the 2nd floor.... and sweet decorations... I am discouraged because the level of service was not where it should have been. I was very surprised at the staff, especially since my first visit was just a day after they opened... one would think that's when new restaurants are at their best and really want to be on top of it. The staff seemed extremely young and inexperienced and not professional at all...and it was difficult to determine who was staff and who was just a friend visiting, because there were so many young kids behind the counter....they all seemed confused on who was accepting payment, what was ordered...etc....and SLOW. I thought I was in the DEEP SOUTH at how slow things were going. I think there was one person in front of me and it took over 10 minutes to get a cup of drip coffee. Subsequent visits took 2-3x longer during lunch...and again, only a few people ahead of me, way too many people behind the counter....and there doesn't seem to be enough space back there for all of the staff to maneuver around...seemed like everyone was bumping into one another. So, I came back a few more times....to see if I was just being overly judgmental...but, no...still the same. I am really really hoping that they are able to staff this place better, or perhaps train current staff to be more professional and to have a better sense of teamwork so there isn't so much confusion. The food was OK. Coffee was "eh". I'm a bit of a coffee snob though. I don't think they make anything on site...it's all made off-site and brought in - at least that's what the staff told me when I asked. The tea was delish....fruit tart was ok also. Final note... I had made arrangements with one of the managers to set up a meeting on the porch that would include a display on the table top...on the day that I came in for the meeting though, a man came out and saw my display on the table and asked me "does SHE know you are doing this here??!!"...I'm not sure who SHE is...I presumed the "SHE" he was referring to was the owner maybe??? He never clarified...but he absolutely made me feel like I wasn't supposed to be there...another man was with him and apologized on his behalf after he stalked off.... the whole thing was uncomfortable... I'd really like to go back again to see if things have improved...but I am wary. I think I just love the porch. Parking is along the street and it's metered. There is also a parking lot in BACK...
